History of BOA :
Bangladesh Olympic Association is an independent corporate body organized in the year 1976. It has elected office bearers and is constituted under the Olympic charter. Internationally BOA is also called NOC-BAN. This organization belongs to the Olympic Movement, duly represented by the President, hereby undertake to respect the provisions of the Olympic Charter and the Olympic movement Anti-Doping Code and to abide by the decisions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). BOA also respects the provision of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and works closely for the development of sports.
Bangladesh has a long history spanning thousands of years. A land replete with history we finally achieved independence in the 'year 1971 after a protracted 9 month long Independence war. It is bounded by India at the West, North and Northeast by Burma, at Southeast side and to the South is the coastline of Bay of Bengal. It has total area of 144,000 Sq. km. It has Natural gas and Coal as natural resources. Bangladesh has subtropical monsoon climate, wide seasonal variation in rainfall, moderately warm temperature, and high humidity.
Bangladesh has been the breeding ground for indigenous games like 'lathikhela' (stick play), 'ekka dokka' , 'dangoli', 'gollachchut' (circular run), 'kanamachi' (blind fly), 'ha doo doo", 'dariabandha' .and above all kabaddi the most popular of them all. All South Asian countries play kabaddi and it is no wonder that the 11th Asiad has included kabadi as a regular discipline.
BOA undertakes, in accordance with its mission and role at national level, to participate in actions to promote peace and to promote women in sport. BOA also undertakes to support and encourage the promotion of sports ethics, to fight against doping and to demonstrate a responsible concern for environmental issues.
BOA also undertakes to comply with respective Rules, Bye-laws to Rules of the Olympic Charter. Its general council is constituted with 74 representatives from different organization while its Executive Body is formed with 37 officials.
